Brno – Žabovřesky

On a sloping site in Brno–Žabovřesky, a timber house has been designed as a retreat for two families. It builds on the original cabin, reusing its basement and adapting it for contemporary recreational living—offering calm in greenery just minutes from the city.
The client sought more than a typical “cabin”—a place balancing shared time and privacy. The T-shaped layout connects two residential wings, each with bedrooms and bathrooms, through a glazed living space with direct access to the terrace.
Two taller volumes with shed roofs house the sleeping areas, while a lower central volume with a flat roof forms an open living space connected to the garden and south-facing views. Panoramic glazing and roof overhangs provide daylight and shading throughout the year.
Important elements :
1
Two living areas, one common area
Each family has its own part with two bedrooms (on the ground floor and in the attic) and a bathroom. The living areas are connected by a central glass space with a kitchen and a common room intended for sharing and quiet living.
2
Timber construction from CLT panels
The entire building is designed as a wooden structure made of CLT panels. It combines precision assembly with the natural aesthetics of solid wood and excellent thermal and technical properties.
3
Connection to the garden and views
Panoramic glazing and an adjoining terrace blur the line between interior and exterior. The house opens up to the landscape and allows direct contact with the garden and surrounding nature.
4
Custom-made carpentry interiors
The bedrooms are equipped with custom-designed and manufactured furniture. The joinery details underline the character of the building and provide a functional solution in a compact space.
