Nikola Bisová, Ing. arch. Monika Danielová, Ing. arch. Ondřej Jelínek An elementary cube is inserted into a gap in the southern slope, within a neighbourhood of older family houses and villas in Prague’s Braník district. The restrained volume conceals a complex internal layout inspired by the Raumplan, organized across eight distinct living levels, carefully shaped in response to the terrain and varying ceiling heights. The house is designed for a family of four, with the potential for future transformation into a multi-generational villa with four separate apartments.

Pavel Lejdar, Ing. arch. Nikola Bisová, Bc. Nina Macáková, Ing. arch. Monika Danielová, Ing. arch. Lada Chromelová The villa house project is located in the historic part of Nový Lískovec in Brno, on a south-facing sloped site within a block of row housing with private inner gardens. The existing house, in poor technical condition, will be demolished and replaced with a new building. The proposed building contains 8 apartments (from 1-bedroom to 3-bedroom units) across three above-ground floors and one underground level. The basement includes parking spaces, storage units, technical facilities, and a shared sauna connected to the garden. The layout responds to the character of the site: the mezzanine level accommodates three of the largest apartments with private gardens, the first floor contains three apartments with terraces facing the courtyard, and the recessed top floor features two apartments with rooftop terraces. All apartments are accessible via a shared staircase and a barrier-free elevator. Important elements : 1 Context first The building mass is articulated to naturally relate to its surroundings, visually reducing its scale. Each floor steps back alternately towards the courtyard or the street. 2 Views and privacy The layout and façades carefully balance openness towards views, terraces, and gardens with privacy towards the street. Large French windows are complemented by parapets and solid terrace walls. With one exception, each apartment has either a private garden or a generous terrace. 3 Façade and architectural expression Despite the articulated massing, the façades are designed in a restrained manner, using muted cream tones and a regular window grid with subtle frames that relate to the surrounding historic context. The façades are further defined by delicate cornices and low terrace parapets. 4 Craft in detail, inside and out The subtle façade is complemented by crafted details, particularly unified metal railings for windows, terraces, and the interior staircase, giving the building its distinctive character.

Jan Gabriel, Ing. arch. Lada Chromelová, Ing. arch. Monika Danielová In the village centre of Herálec, within the landscape of the Žďárské vrchy, stands a protected historic building: a former shop with a living room and a barn. In recent years, however, it has suffered from insensitive interventions carried out without professional guidance. The new owner has chosen a careful rehabilitation—respecting both its heritage status and contemporary needs. The aim is to preserve its authentic character while creating a functional and welcoming place. The building will serve for recreation, small corporate events, and short-term rentals. Emphasis is placed on a close connection to nature—a sloping garden adjoins the house, complemented by an orchard and seasonal activities. Important elements : 1 The barn as the heart of the house The barn is open to the rafters, showcasing the massive stonework and original carpentry, creating a social space for gatherings. 2 Contextual addition of the plot The design also includes a new building with a gable roof, which is discreetly embedded in the terrain. It houses a parking space on the ground floor and two apartments on the first floor connected to the main garden. 3 Sensitive restoration and new layers The original mass and envelope of the building remain. Interventions, such as a new entrance hall, mini-wellness or terrace behind the house, respect the historical structure and complement it with functions that move the house towards today's use. 4 Material moderation and emphasis on craftsmanship The materials used: stone, stucco, oak floors, brick paving in the barn, follow local tradition. New elements, such as the black metal staircase, opt for simplicity and understatement.

Jan Gabriel, Ing. arch. Eva Svobodová Photo: Filip Šlapal Slightly sloping land is located in the direct vicinity of the Lipno reservoir. The location of the building on the plot is chosen so that the main living area offers a view of the water surface. The mass of the house refers to the typology of the original Sumava cottages. The black facade made of burnt larch contrasts with the light interior made entirely of spruce biodesk. The timber-framed building is based on a stone platform that flanks the building on three sides and creates a covered and uncovered terrace. The layout of the ground floor of the building is designed as an open airy space connected to the exterior, which is elevated in its main part up to the ridge of the roof. The attic contains two bedrooms and a gallery. Movable sliding wooden shutters are designed on the ground floor for a sense of security and privacy. The nature garden is dominated by a mature swamp oak.

Jan Gabriel, Ing. arch. Eva Svobodová, Ing arch. Martina Navrátilová The homestead is situated in the quiet, secluded valley of Zápudov in Bohemian Paradise. The estate includes extensive grounds—a large orchard and forest. The design focuses on the renovation of three farmhouse structures to accommodate a large family and their guests for recreational use. The aim was to preserve the rural ambiance of the place and restore it from past renovations that had not been sympathetic to its character. The main house serves as the central gathering space for the family, with bedrooms for children and parents located in the attic. The barn houses a sauna and provides space for a workshop for the entire homestead. The attic in this building includes guest accommodations. The third building, a former barn, now functions as a versatile, seasonal, covered social space. It features an open kitchen overlooking the valley and a wooden structure with social facilities, which can also serve as a workspace.

Architektonické studio pro ty, kteří chtějí domov na míru. Navrhujeme domy promyšlené do posledního detailu. Jsme architektonické studio, které se specializuje na bydlení, rekonstrukce a dřevostavby. Cottage Domažlice Study 2025 Project 2025 Ing. arch. Nikola Bisová, Ing. arch. Jan Gabriel The brief was to create a cabin for two that could also welcome guests and offer them its space. On a small plot with strict limits on footprint, we searched for a balance between compactness and full comfort — a home that opens its arms to both residents and visitors, while wasting no space and using every corner with purpose and care. The design resulted in a structure that resonates with the scale and calm of the surrounding landscape. Its form settles naturally into the terrain, respecting the rhythm of the sloping site and creating a place for quiet moments with views of the countryside. It feels cohesive and inviting — simple in shape, harmonious in its relationship to the environment, yet open to living close to nature. Important elements : 1 Placement on the plot The cabin is positioned in the centre of the eastern part of the site, creating a series of connected garden nooks on three sides. The terrain slopes northwards, revealing a view of the town. From the terrace and the living area, the scenery of rooftops and greenery unfolds. 2 Proportions of the cabin and the landscape The cabin respects the scale of its surroundings and gently relates to the character of the landscape through its form and materiality. It does not seek to dominate; instead, it creates a welcoming atmosphere and a well-considered base that naturally resonates with the environment. 3 Layout The layout is clearly organised, with a distinct separation between the day and night zones. The living area opens naturally toward the landscape, forming a sensitive relationship between the interior and its surroundings. 4 Materiality The timber structure carries the warmth and authenticity of a traditional cottage. The sheet-metal roof, extending beyond the façade, frames the building and lends it a sense of lightness, openness and a subtle, harmonious expression.

Pavel Lejdar, Ing. arch. Jana Kusbachová We designed a low-energy new building for a young family of three on a generous corner plot on the border between older family housing and new houses. In order to sensitively complete the street and at the same time achieve privacy and sunlight in the garden and ground floor space in relation to the road with a bus stop in the immediate vicinity of the house, we placed the double garage building and the house itself with living rooms facing the garden at opposite ends of the plot. Given the disparate architecture of the houses in the neighbourhood, we designed a minimalist house with flat vegetated roofs and white render combined with light brick cladding. The house is divided into three masses of varying heights - in the interior this, together with the proposed two-storey internal atrium, creates a playful effect of alternating high and low spaces. The tallest and largest living area opens through a full-glass wall to the quiet garden via a covered terrace.

Lejdar, E. Svobodová From an inappropriately designed apartment to trendy housing for a young couple. Prague's Letná district is generally hailed as an ideal location for living. The investors bought an apartment in a loft extension on Kamenická Street. It was built recently, in the 1990s, and unfortunately carried many of the ills typical of this period. The biggest problem of the apartment was the unsatisfactory layout with several sloping walls and a poorly usable but spacious corridor. The investors wanted to turn an unusable space with cold and too dark tiles into a welcoming entrance to the apartment. Due to the slanted walls, the layout created several deaf and hard-to-reach places. Although the apartment is 88 m2, it felt cramped. Therefore, the main idea was to open up the layout and increase its functionality, increase the living space and give the apartment new and fresh colours.
